“A miracle is simply something that is impossible from an old story but possible from within a new one. It is an expansion of what is possible.”
Charles Eisenstein
An inspiring vision
Ever since I completed my Permaculture Design course about 15 years ago I have been concerned about ecosystem destruction and interested in ideas for living more closely aligned with nature.
To spread these ideas I showed films in my local community. I think this medium helps us to envision what might be possible. I have added links to some of the films at the bottom of this page. Films can show us an inspiring vision in action, tangible things we can connect with and to.
The fiasco
Watching the fiasco of the last two years has been an absolute affront to most of what I learned for those films. The actions taken, to me, were just more of the same destruction belching forth from the sick systems causing so much harm to our planet.
This modern way of life is failing. It has polluted our oceans, damaged our lands, destroyed eco-systems, poisoned the air, and caused untold harm to other species.
People are not fairing well. Initiation into the global capitalist, consumer world, makes us sick. We have escalating mental health issues especially in our young, chronic illness on the rise and fertility problems abound. These are not the signs of a healthy thriving species.
Fear response
The fear response to the pandemic created panic which drove old patterns of control over and combat with. We went to war trying to beat it into submission just as we have done with so much of the natural world.
It didn’t work.
We now have even more of a plastic problem, even more of a debt problem, even more of a poverty problem, even more of every problem. It didn’t solve anything. Despite the injection people still got sick and died. They were persuade to take a new medical technology that has killed and harmed those never at risk. What it might do long term we have no idea. It’s a mess.
Natural, normal human beings
Two years when we could have looked to improving the vitality and health of the nation. We could have helped the vulnerbale become naturally more resilient to disease. But instead we tried to hide away from nature, holed up at home, hidden behind plastic face coverings, coating ourselves in toxic sanitisers we learned to fear being natural normal human beings.
Surely it’s time to stop this way of being. How about we take some serious action towards creating a kinder, fairer, more sustainable way of life on earth that helps us live in a way which supports natural health and happiness?
Nature is not our enemy, our way of life is, and that is what must change.
A new vision is needed. We have to engage with what might be possible and then take action towards that desired outcome. If we don’t we will get swept up in someone else’s vision of how the future should be.
Currently the global elite have that in hand. They are herding us towards their vision. It’s a world of digital control and surveillance. Our human rights will continue to be eroded as they seek total control of our lives.
I think it’s time for us to co-create a new way forward. We can dream into being a better chance at life for future generations.
Out of this darkness a new world can arise, not to be constructed by our minds so much as to emerge from our dreams. Even though we cannot see clearly how it’s going to turn out, we are still called to let the future into our imagination. We will never be able to build what we have not first cherished in our hearts.

Catching an inspiring vision
I am co-hosting a short workshop with my friend and colleague Annie Loughlin of Elope to Argyll. Based on The Work That Reconnects developed by Joanna Macy we offer a space in which to honour our difficult feelings about the world. We then transform them into resilience, strength and renewed energy to help us play our part in the collective changes and challenges we face going forward.
You can find out more about the workshop at this page Catching an Inspiring Vision.
